Linfeng Chen

Linfeng Chen

Linfeng joined the Urban group in January 2023. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego. At LBNL, Linfeng is focusing on the separation and recovery of lithium and magnesium from brines using polyoxometalate-based materials. In addition, he is broadly interested in designing inorganic cluster frameworks and exploring their single-crystal-to-single-crystal transformations to address challenges in critical materials sustainability.

Shuo Liu

Shuo Liu

Shuo Liu obtained his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Since September 2024, he has been a postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His work has focused on the development of novel inorganic materials, including metastable materials, high-entropy materials, mesoporous materials, MOFs, alloy nanoparticles, ceramics, and explored their applications in thermal catalysis, electrochemistry, sensing, thermal management, and solid waste recycling. Shuo Liu is currently working on the development and application of thermal energy storage materials.

Chengshuang Zhou

Chengshuang Zhou

Chengshuang joined the Urban group in October 2024. He obtained his B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering in Tsinghua University, and his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University. At LBNL, Chengshuang is developing the synthesis and characterization of multielement and high-entropy materials to address the challenge in renewable fuel generation, such as CO2 hydrogenation to hydrocarbons. Besides, he is also interested in understanding fundamental problems in heterogeneous catalysis with precise model systems.

Maroosol Yun

Maroosol Yun

myun@lbl.gov

Maroosol joined the Urban group in Aug 2025. She received her PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yonsei University, Korea (2019-2025). Her work has focused on the thermal management of high heat flux systems, including two phase heat transfer for electronics cooling, cooling system design for fusion reactor components, thermohydraulics in circulating fluidized bed reactors. At LBNL, Maroosol is working on the design of a high throughput screening device for CO2 hydrogenation catalysts.
