Sidney joined the Urban group in September 2021, and is being co-advised by Dr. Baoxia Mi in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His current research is focused on the development of mixed matrix membranes for gas separation. He also works on the development of sensors for heavy metal detection.

Yifan is a third-year Ph.D. candidate specializing in bipolar membranes (BPMs) and related systems. His research focuses on investigating catalyzed ionic water dissociation mechanisms. Building on this foundation, he is dedicated to the design and engineering of innovative BPM junctions and devices. Yifan's current research interests involve utilizing membrane-inorganic hybrid materials to tackle crucial energy and sustainability challenges. His work specifically targets applications such as critical metal separation, CO2-to-fuel conversion, and electrodialysis-based chemical production, with a strong overarching vision for translating these technologies into entrepreneurial ventures.
